How To Ensure Ease Whenever It’s Time To Move Your Small Business

i) Try and only purchase portable furniture for your business

Only procure furniture that are movable so that you just pack them in a lorry when it’s time to move your small business. Having permanent shelves and counters, that is furniture glued or nailed or welded on the on the walls and floors, will have you suffer the cost of destroying then rebuilding them up again in your new station.

ii) Do not make irredeemable improvements to the premises

You might have secured a basic business space in your local town that has a poor finish - in most cases, no ceiling and tiled floors. Going out of your way to furnish the premises without being reimbursed by the landlord could be a waste when the time to relocate your small business comes - which could be sooner that you thought.

iii) Do not attach the place of work’s name to your business name

When naming your small business or registering your business name legally, you do not want to include your local town’s name in it. Instead, have a universal business name so that when you move from one place to the next, you do not have to worry about renaming your business - which could be cost you time and money.

iv) Do not be emotionally attached to the place of work

Having a strong emotional attachment to some town you started your small business in (especially when it’s the place where you spent your childhood in) will have you struggle with relocating when the time comes - you might even turn down opportunities to move, opportunities that could see your business grow like a mushroom.

v) Always have emergency fund as safety net for any mishap

We live a world of uncertainty, anythng can happen at any time. One day you wake up and circumstances force you move your small business there and then. Having some money set aside for emergency purposes can come in handy to help finance your relocation, especially if moving your business is the only option left.

Also, try not to damage the premises (for example by nailing the walls and breaking window panes), always be up-to-date with your bills (especially rent and electricity), leave valuables that were handed to you like keys and meters to the landlord, and have somewhere where you can crash at especially when you have to relocate abruptly.
