Business is not only about financial transactions but also personal interchange between human beings, that ideally lead to long-term business relationships. Here are some of the things that your clients want to hear you say when they walk into your store.
a) "How may I help?" and "Thank you."
Your customers want to know that you are interested in them, and that they are important to you. So, welcome them warmly when they walk into your shop and ask how you may be of assistance. After serving them well, become special by appreciating your clients for dropping by.
b) "This product or service is on offer or for free."
In these "hard economic times", everybody (your customers in this matter) wants free or discounted stuff. Have some items on special offer, especially during the festives, and promote them to your clients in person at your shop or online (if you have a website and/or social media presence).
c) "I don’t have/offer that but let me call someone."
It’s exhausting when customers come to your shop and don’t find what they are looking for. Establish a good network of, and relationship with, colleagues in your trade, a connection that’ll facilitate convenient redirection of your clients to where they can get whatever they couldn’t find at your store.
d) "I’ll always be here at your service."
Your customers want to be assured that you will always be there whenever they need you. Give them this promise and walk the talk by opening your small business early in the morning and closing it late in the evening, every single day. Also, you want to have your contact line on 24/7.
