The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is a friendly service organization that offers social protection to all Kenyan workers in both the formal and informal sectors, who registered and made their contribution as either employed or voluntary members.

How to Register for NSSF Online

NSSF registers members, receive their contributions, manage funds of the scheme, process and ultimately pay out benefits to eligible members or dependents.

Below are the requirements and procedure of registering for NSSF online.

Requirements

  • National ID Card
  • Employer ID (if you’re joining NSSF as an employed member)
  • Introduction Letter, from your employer (if you’re joining NSSF as an employed member)
  • KES. 200, as the Minimum Initial Contribution to activate your card (if you’re joining NSSF as a voluntary member)

Procedure

  1. Go to your browser, search NSSF then click on the NSSF Website to open.
  2. On the NSSF home page, on the right side of your screen, click NSSF Self Service.
  3. On the NSSF Self Service page, move your mouse pointer to Member Self Service on the menu bar at the top and click Member Registration on the drop-down list that displays. The Member Registration form opens.
  4. On the Account Info section:
    • enter your Username (must consist of 8-12 latin characters or digits), then
    • enter and verify/re-enter your Password (must consist of 8-15 characters - a combination of alphanumeric and special characters).
  5. On the Members Particulars section:
    • enter your Nationality, Surname, First Name, Gender, Country of Birth, Date of Birth, Employment Date, ID Document Type i.e. National Identity Card, Passport or Other Certificate, ID Number, Voluntary i.e. choose No if your are joining as an employed member or Yes if you’re joining as a voluntary member, and finally your Employer ID if you are joining as an employed member.
    • You may add Payroll No., Birth Cert No., Birth Cert Issued Date, ID Document Issued Date and KRA PIN number if you have.
  6. On the Members Permanent Address section:
    • enter your P.O. Address including the Postal Code.
    • You may add Mobile i.e. your phone number and Email if you have.
  7. On the Home Details section:
    • enter your County, District, District of Birth and Location.
    • You may add details of your Sub Location, Village, Local Market, Estate, Street Name and Street Number.
  8. Enter the Visual Verification Code displayed (if you are uncertain about the content of the visual verification image click the Refresh link), then
  9. Click Save.

The values you entered in each separate field will be checked for validity. In case of a mistaken entry, an appropriate error mesage shall appear suggesting which fields are invalid. If the validation check is successful, your registration application will be stored to the system.

Print the registration information that will appear on your screen and take them, together with the other Requirements mentioned above, to an NSSF Branch Office or Huduma Centre near you.

An additional check of your application data will be performed and you shall be provided with an NSSF Card containing your NSSF Number.

Note

  • As a voluntary NSSF member, you can make your contribution (a minimum of KES. 200 in a month or KES. 4,800 in a year) via M-PESA as described below:

How to Make your NSSF Contribution through M-PESA PayBill

  1. Go to your M-PESA menu and select Lipa na M-PESA,
  2. choose the PayBill option,
  3. enter the NSSF Business No. 333300,
  4. enter your NSSF Number as the Account No.,
  5. enter Amount (your contribution) e.g. 200, then
  6. enter your M-PESA PIN and confirm the details.
